Chapter 1 - Tuesday

Read

Hebrews 1:3-4 (NLT)

3The Son reflects God’s own glory, and everything about him represents God exactly. He sustains the universe by the mighty power of his command. After he died to cleanse us from the stain of sin, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God of heaven.

4This shows that God’s Son is far greater than the angels, just as the name God gave him is far greater than their names.

Reflect

A common phrase heard about young boys is, He is just like his Dad. Depending on what the boy is doing, it can either be a positive statement or a not-so-positive statement.
In our reading today, Jesus’ comparison to God is much more than, “He is just like his Dad“. It says that Jesus is the exact representation of the Father and by just His word, he sustains (upholds) ALL things. In Luke 8:25, we know that he controlled the weather just by speaking, “Even the wind and waves obey him“.

Even today, in our storms of life, Jesus, God’s exact representation, can and will sustain us.

Respond

What is your image of God? How would you describe Him?

We tend to view God as a heavenly version of our earthly father. In what ways was your dad similar to Jesus? How was he different?

How does knowing Jesus change your view of God?
