Read
12For the word of God is full of living power. It is sharper than the sharpest knife, cutting deep into our innermost thoughts and desires. It exposes us for what we really are. 13Nothing in all creation can hide from him. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes. This is the God to whom we must explain all that we have done.
Reflect
I love the word picture that the author draws in these verses. The author describes the Word of God in five ways:
- Living. It can make a spiritually dead sinner spiritually alive.
- Active. The Greek word used here means “powerful”.
- Sharper. It has an incisive quality.
- Piercing. It is so penetrating that it can decipher a division between soul and spirit.
- Quick to discern. It points out the difference between the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Respond
What adjective would you use to describe God’s Word?
What can we do right now to make ourselves more accountable to God?
How much time do you spend reading His Word?
