Kingdom Come Week 5 - Friday

Take a few minutes today to read Matthew 25:1-46.

For Reflection:

  1. The parable of the ten virgins compels us to be ready for the coming of the Lord. What are you doing to keep your lamp from going out?
  2. According to the parable of the talents, God expects us to take what He has entrusted to us and put it to use for Him. How are you doing this, and what will you do to be more effective?
  3. How can you be more attentive and more helpful to those in need?

Prayer Starters:

PPraise: Lord, You are the coming King! You rule over all creation and Your ways are just.

RRepent: Forgive me for neglecting those in need. Forgive me for hiding my talents and for using them only for selfish gain. Forgive me for letting my lamp grow dim.

AAsk: Fill me with Your Spirit, and bless my efforts to serve You and minister to others.

YYield: I will shine brightly for You. I will obey Your commands and follow the leading of Your Spirit. What would You have me do?

Take a few minutes today to read Matthew 24:1-51.

For Reflection:

  1. What is your first impression as you read Jesus’ description of His second coming?
  2. As we wait for Jesus to come again, what are the various things that deceive people from putting their faith in Him?
  3. What can we do to “stand firm to the end”?

Prayer Starters:

PPraise: Jesus, You are the soon coming King! You are the Savior of the world. Your words are true and they will never pass away.

RRepent: Forgive me for falling for the deceptions of the world. Forgive me for taking my eyes off of You.

AAsk: Help me stand firm.

YYield: I will keep my eyes on You and remain ready for Your return.

  1. Jesus had much criticism for the religious leaders of His day. In what ways do some church leaders act like the Pharisees in the Bible?
  2. How do these vehement warnings and rebukes affect your view of Jesus?
  3. What does verse 37 say about the heart of the Messiah?

PPraise: Lord, You demand righteousness from Your people for You are righteous. You long for mercy for You are merciful. You cry out for justice for You are just.

RRepent: Forgive me for my hypocrisy. I no longer want to walk in selfishness, acting as a blind guide to those around me.

AAsk: Gather me under Your wings. Cleanse me from the inside out and make me more like You.

YYield: I humble myself before You and will follow Your leading.

  1. What is the moral of the parable of the wedding banquet?
  2. Jesus amazed and astonished the crowds with His insightful wisdom. In what ways have you been amazed and astonished by Jesus?
  3. Jesus summarized the entire Old Testament of the Bible into two commandments. How well are you obeying them?

PPraise: Lord, You are an amazing God. Your wisdom is limitless; Your knowledge is unending.

RRepent: Forgive me for doubting and denying You. I desire to obey You always.

AAsk: Teach me to love You more, and fill me with Your Spirit that I may love my neighbors.

  1. As Jesus rode triumphantly into Jerusalem, the people honored Him with shouts of praise. In what ways do you praise and worship King Jesus?
  2. Jesus drove the money changers out of the temple area because they were cheating the people who were buying animals for the required sacrifices. In what ways has the church been misused?
  3. Why did Jesus say the tax collectors and prostitutes would enter the kingdom ahead of the religious leaders?

PPraise: Jesus, You are the Messiah, the promised One. You are the King of kings and the Lord of lords.

RRepent: Forgive me for trying to use Your grace and Your kingdom for selfish gain.

AAsk: Strengthen my faith and give me wisdom to know how to pray.

Take a few minutes today to read Matthew 19:1-30.

For Reflection:

  1. The Pharisees argued with Jesus about His stance on divorce and remarriage. Which of Jesus’ teachings do you have difficulty with, and how will you seek to resolve your position with His?
  2. The rich young man talking with Jesus had a limit to how much he would do for God. What is your current limit, and are you willing to consider doing more for the Lord and for others?
  3. What did Jesus mean when he said, “many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first”?

P - Praise: Lord, you are full of wisdom, righteousness and goodness. Nothing evil or impure comes from You.
R - Repent: Forgive me for going against Your commands. Cleanse me of my selfish thoughts and decisions.
A - Ask: Give me a clean heart that I may follow You. Teach me Your ways, and give me the strength to live for You.
Y - Yield: In faith, I will put Your teachings into practice. I will obey You and follow Your ways.
