Shine Like A Star - Week 3 - Day 1

Filed under: Daily, Shine Like A Star — David Petersen @ 4:00 am

The Script

1Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? 2Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. Philippians 2:1-2

The Plot

Paul’s command to the Philippians to work together with one mind and purpose is illustrated simply with this short commentary by A. W. Tozer.

“Has it ever occurred to you that one hundred pianos all tuned to the same fork are automatically tuned to each other? They are of one accord by being tuned, not to each other, but to another standard to which each one must individually bow. So one hundred worshipers [meeting] together, each one looking away to Christ, are in heart nearer to each other than they could possibly be, were they to become ‘unity’ conscious and turn their eyes away from God to strive for closer fellowship.”

A. W. Tozer understood what Paul was teaching the Philippians. Any type of unity that we try to do on our own will fall short of the type of unity we can find in Christ.

Walk Through

  1. What does ‘fellowship together in the Spirit’ mean?
  2. Paul give a list of the benefits when someone is a Christian. What are they?
  3. What are some ways we can make sure we’re tuned to the same fork?
